Task Forces
NYBGH task forces are working groups of members who
plan programs and activities for the entire
membership. Current working groups include the
following.
Education Committee
For over a decade, the Education Committee (formerly
the Health Benefits Advisory Group) has supported the transition of area employers
from the fee-for-service to the managed health care
delivery system. As the momentum builds in the
market for a consumer-directed approach to delivery,
the group's educational programs and activities will
examine evolving health policy, technology,
delivery, cost, quality and outcomes for all
stakeholders.
Eldercare Task Force
In 1990, the Eldercare Task Force was formed with
the purpose of bringing together business, labor and
government organizations to address the issues of
support for elderly family members and others
through workplace programs for employee caregivers.
The Eldercare Task Force's mission is to encourage
workplace response to the needs of employee
caregivers and to guide employers to appropriate
activities and programs. The group serves as a major
information source for New York area businesses and
provider organizations by organizing and sponsoring
a variety of programs and conferences on eldercare.
Currently, the Task Force includes experts in the
fields of work life consulting, elder law, corporate
elder care services and health education.
Mental Health Task Force
The Mental Health Task Force was formed as a response to the increasing awareness of the impact of mental health issues on employees’ health and productivity. An initial focus of the Task Force is depression. Based on information gained through eValue8 and other sources that indicates that many people with depression are not being identified and are not getting appropriate treatment. The group’s work in depression is focused on:
- Increasing awareness
- Decreasing stigma
- Promoting screening with consumers and physicians
- Advocating for appropriate referral and treatment
- Providing employers with information and resources to address the issue at the worksite
The current project is the “One Voice” initiative in which all the New York Metro health plans have agreed to collaborate on sending a single, common message to physicians promoting depression screening with the PHQ-9. This initiative is working in conjunction with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Depression Initiative.
